Oh, hello! I’m Kate.
As a Principal Product Designer at Amwell, I lead our most complex design projects and was recently recognized with a company award for impact and leadership.
I have a knack for untangling gnarly problems, helping design teams get unstuck, and connecting the dots between features, products, & systems.
I thrive in player/coach roles, where I can lead, guide, and support while also doing the boots-on-the-ground design work.

Strategic Systems Thinking
I think in systems—how features connect, how solutions can serve multiple needs, and where small changes create outsized impact. When I'm working on a project, I'm always looking for those moments where one smart decision can solve several problems at once, or where understanding the bigger picture reveals simpler paths forward. It's about finding the connections that make everything work better together, not just building features in isolation.
Designing Through Ambiguity
When projects hit a wall or teams can't see the path forward, I step in to untangle the mess. I'm good at spotting the real problem hiding underneath the surface-level chaos, asking the right questions to create clarity, and building frameworks that turn confusion into momentum. Whether it's a stalled design sprint or a completely undefined product challenge, I help teams move from "we're stuck" to "we know what to do next."
Leadership & Team Enablement
Design teams thrive when there’s clarity, momentum, and someone who knows when to take the wheel (and when to crack a well-timed joke). I’m often the one who helps untangle messy problems, guide collaboration, and get teams moving in the right direction—with a clear plan and a light touch. People do better work when they’re at ease, and I love creating an environment where that’s the norm.

I love designing for real-world impact
Throughout my career—from my current healthcare work to my earlier connected device projects—I've focused on creating solutions with tangible impact on people's lives. I enjoy designing interfaces that bridge digital capabilities and real-world operations, helping people make better decisions, work more safely, and solve complex problems. Non-work stuff about me
When I’m not helping to solve design problems, I play guitar & sing backing vocals in Sidewalk Driver. I also co-manage the band and have helped keep us from imploding since 2005! I used to be an elementary school teacher and those skills help me deal with my childlike bandmates. I storyboarded & directed a video for a song I wrote.
I've also been a boat captain for a long time, operating various tour boats, beach shuttles, and water taxis on Cape Cod and in Boston. I used to drive a Duck for Boston Duck Tours and one of the highlights of my life was driving in the 2013 Red Sox Championship parade. (The police escort from the garage to Fenway Park while cranking Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" was memorable to say the least.)
I love to ski, travel, take pictures, and meet new dogs.
